PICKING AT WOUNDS
♦ Final version (no "first
draft"):
start: spring 1998
finish: July 29 2001
♦The character is Sybil is physically
based on my friend the Good Rev. Chris, but inside they are almost
completely different, except for a love of being outrageous.
♦Inspired by my first
experience in New York City, in the DUMBO neighborhood, by David Bowie and
Brian Eno's last collaboration, the album Outside, and its concept
of the "art murder", by rampant disgust with American consumerist
marketing media, and by recollections of all the unpleasantness visited
upon me by various "best friends" of the past.
♦ Music listened to while
writing:
Sonic Youth: Experimental Jet Set, Trash & No
Star/Daydream
Nation/Evol/The Silver Sessions. Einsturzende Neubauten: Tabula
Rasa/Ende
Neu. Cabaret: Soudtrack to the Motion Picture. Sun Ra: Space
Is The Place. All Bauhaus
